Frequently asked questions
What are the doses for Credelio™?
Does bathing affect Credelio™ efficacy?
Credelio is an oral medication that circulates in a dog’s bloodstream. Specific bathing studies have not been conducted, but because Credelio is a systemic medication and not applied topically, bathing would not be expected to have any effect on the efficacy. Credelio, unlike topical products, offers dog owners a convenient way to administer flea and tick control that won’t interfere with medically required or other frequent bathing.
Why does my dog still have ticks after a dose of Credelio™?
Dead ticks may remain attached to a dog. Before starting its blood meal, a tick may securely attach to a pet’s skin by secreting an adhesive compound into the bite wound or by anchoring its longer hypostome (mouthparts).4 On a treated dog, dead ticks might passively remain anchored and can easily be removed
How long does it take Credelio™ to get rid of fleas?
Credelio has a rapid onset of action and starts to kill fleas in just 2 hours from administration, with fleas being eliminated within 6 hours. New infestations, fleas are eliminated within 4 hours throughout the month.
What ages of dogs can be treated with Credelio™?
Credelio can be used in puppies from 8 weeks of age and over 1,3kg body mass.
Can Credelio™ be used with breeding, pregnant or lactating dogs?
The safety in breeding, pregnant and lactating dogs has not been established. Please consult your veterinarian.
Can Credelio™ be given to dogs with food allergies?
Does seeing fleas on a dog treated with Credelio™ mean that it is not working?
Credelio kills adult fleas quickly and effectively when used monthly according to the label directions. Remember that all animals in the household should be treated with an approved flea product to minimise the likelihood of flea re-infestation.
Regardless of the product used to kill the fleas, a dog can continue to be exposed to the fleas that live in the environment. If these fleas jump onto a dog and feed, they will be killed by Credelio.
Any fleas seen on a dog within a month after the dog has received Credelio are likely from the environment. These “new” fleas will be killed quickly and effectively.
What should I do if I miss giving a dose of Credelio™?
If a dose is missed, administer Credelio with food and resume a monthly dosing schedule to minimize the opportunity for tick and flea re-infestations. Consult your veterinarian about any concerns you may have about ticks and fleas due to the late/missed dose.
Is Credelio™ effective in killing flea eggs, larvae or pupae, either on a dog or in the environment?
Credelio chewable tablets start killing existing and newly emerged fleas on dogs before they can lay eggs due to their rapid onset of action and long-lasting efficacy. Therefore, the chewable tablet breaks the flea lifecycle and prevents environmental flea contamination in areas to which the dog has access.
Can Credelio™ tablets be split?
Elanco does not recommend splitting Credelio tablets because they are not scored for splitting. A variety of sizes is available to allow for accurate dosing according to a dogs weight.
Can I mix Credelio™ with food?
Credelio must be administered with food or after feeding.
